Botox treatment

Botox against excessive sweating? Yes, it is possible. Many people suffer from excessive sweating in the armpits, the palms and/or the soles. A Botox treatment against hyperhidrosis may offer the solution. The treatment with botulin toxin helps against excessive sweating in the armpits, hands, and soles. The toxin blocks the nerve that controls the sweat glands, by which the glands can no longer produce sweat. Most people who sweat much do not really suffer from a real defect, but heavy sweating (hyperhidrosis) may create a social barrier. Most people who have been treated at Kliniek Dokter Frodo no longer suffer from sweating armpits, hands, or feet within 2 weeks after treatment.

How does excessive sweating develop?

Excessive sweating is hard to explain. It concerns a natural (excessive) sweat production. The severity of sweating strongly differs per person. It may concern a disruption of the balance in the nervous system that is associated with the regulation of heat dissipation. Excessive sweating may also occur as a side effect of medications or illnesses and the complaints may also appear much more severe than they actually are in case of certain psychological disorders.

Consultation

Consultation

During a noncommittal consultation, we discuss whether an anti-transpiration treatment suits you. You meet your practitioner and we explain how the hyperhidrosis treatment with Botox works. We will certainly also discuss alternative treatments with you in order to be able to offer an honest advice of what treatment suits you best.

It is important to have shaven armpits in order to allow the doctor to correctly draw the injection spots.

After we have drawn the injection spots, you receive 12-18 injections per armpit. This is not perceived as painful in general, but the pain perception differs per person. No anaesthetic cream is needed for the treatment of the armpits.

However, the treatment of the palms or soles is very sensitive. A special anaesthetic cream is used here.

After the treatment

After the treatment

The Botox anti-transpiration treatment takes about 20 minutes. You can directly resume your daily activities after the treatment. You will already notice a decrease in armpit transpiration after about two days. Transpiration has maximally been reduced after two weeks.

You will hardly be bothered by excessive sweating for 4 to 6 months after the treatment. The effect of a follow-up treatment lasts for 6 to 12 months.

FAQ

FAQ

Do I have to keep on coming back for a Botox treatment?

Botox has a temporal effect on the sweat glands. If you want to have the best results, you should be treated again after several months. The more often you are treated, the longer the effect of the treatment; sometimes even up to 12 months.

When can I sport again after a Botox treatment?

To prevent the botulin toxin from spreading, you should prevent pressure on the treated area, and we advise you not do sports during the 24 hours after the treatment.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment itself takes about 10 minutes. Expect about half an hour if you first have a consult.
