Juvéderm is a natural hyaluronic acid filler that returns the skin’s flexibility, recovers the skin’s volume, and fights wrinkles. A Juvéderm treatment is a quick, pain-free treatment.

Juvéderm improves fine wrinkles, provides fuller lips, and increases the volume of the face.

  • Improving wrinkles
  • Improving the lip contour and the lip lines
  • Fuller lips
  • Volume recovery and contour improvement
  • Improving hanging mouth corners

The filler Juvéderm naturally occurs in the body as hyaluronic acid, which makes the skin supple and elastic. As one grows older, the production of hyaluronic acid decreases. Because of this, the skin becomes flabby and wrinkles arise. Juvéderm replaces the natural hyaluronic acid. It is a gel that forms small cushions in the skin, which fill up blemishes. We use it for improving wrinkles, the Liquid Facelift, enlarging lips, and removing eye bags.

What is a hyaluronic acid filler?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are our tool in the fight against the loss of volume and shape. After a treatment, the volume at the treated place(s) is directly recovered and the skin becomes smoother. Depending on the chosen treatment, your facial contours improve, eye bags and dark circles are removed, wrinkles are faded, lips are filled, and scars can be diminished. All of this with a natural result.
The fillers we use at Kliniek Dokter Frodo have the big advantage of giving immediate but non-permanent results. The hyaluronic acid in the filler is decomposed in the same natural way as our body-own hyaluronic acid. Depending on the sort of treatment, the result can remain visible for one and a half up to two years.
In case you would not be satisfied, the injectables can be remodelled or even removed without surgery.
In order to prevent a yo-yo effect from occurring, we advise you to have a touch-up performed in order to realize long-lasting treatment effectiveness. It may also be necessary to have a repeated treatment performed 9 to 12 months after the initial surgery, in which, for example, a smaller amount of hyaluronic acid is inserted.
We thank the suppleness and the elasticity of our skin to hyaluronic acid. It is thus an acid with sweet characteristics. The filler Juvéderm sustains the moisture balance of the skin. Unfortunately, hyaluronic acid has one big disadvantage: as we grow older, its production decreases, our skin becomes flabbier, and wrinkles may develop. If you do not like this idea, fortunately we can do something about this nowadays: fillers.
The fillers we use in Kliniek Dokter Frodo are all made of hyaluronic acid. We use it as the natural answer to the aging of the skin, for example for non-surgical facelifts, removing eye bags, filling up lips, and treating scars and blemishes.

Fillers are furtherly used in Kliniek Dokter Frodo for:

  • Improving wrinkles
  • Our lifts: Liquid Facelift, X-lift and Angel lift
  • Enlarging lips
  • Removing bags and dark circles under the eyes
  • Filling and strengthening the nasolabial fold
  • Filling up the volume of the cheekbone

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is one of the most popular and most commonly used fillers in the world. Thanks to the revitalizing effect of the versatile Juvéderm, it is an ideal filler for filling up lips and diminishing wrinkles. We also use this hyaluronic acid filler for our Liquid Facelift.
The foundation for Juvéderm was laid in 1934, when the medical scientists Karl Meyer and John Palm (both connected to the Columbia University in New York) discovered the hydrating effect of hyaluronic acid. Still, however, it took more than sixty years before cosmetic treatments were performed with it: hyaluronic acid was used as a skin filler for the first time in 1996. Juvéderm was developed by the American pharmaceutic company Allergan.
Diverse variants of Juvéderm are available on the market, which makes it possible to apply this broadly applicable filler in various treatments. In our clinic, we use Juvéderm Volbella against eye bags and lines around the lips. Juvéderm Voluma gives a lift and is therefore a valued filler for volume loss in the cheeks, cheekbones, temples, nasolabial fold, mouth corners, chin, and the jawline. An overview:

  • Juvéderm Ultra Smile: with this hyaluronic acid filler, we fill up the lips
  • Juvéderm Ultra 2: for filling up light and mild wrinkles
  • Juvéderm Ultra 3: we use this skin filler for mild to deep wrinkles
  • Juvéderm Ultra 4: the ideal filler for deep wrinkles and volume recovery
  • Juvéderm Hydrate: this non-permanent filler hydrates the neck, hands, cleavage, and the face
  • Juvéderm Volbella: an appropriate injectable for eye bags, lip lines, and smokers’ lines
  • Juvéderm Voluma: recovers the volume of the cheeks, mouth corners, chin, and temples.
  • Juvéderm Volift: a fine filler for softening the laugh lines between the nose and the mouth corners.

What other fillers do we use in our clinic?

In Kliniek Dokter Frodo, we work with the below sorts of fillers on the basis of natural and degradable body-own hyaluronic acid:

In the clinic, we mainly use Macrolane in treatments for reducing scars and body contours. With Macrolane, we are able to adjust your body shape in a natural, non-permanent way. Macrolane is a thicker variant of Restylane

No permanent fillers at Dokter Frodo: why not?

Fillers can be divided into two groups: fillers we do and fillers we don’t use in our clinic. The most important choice concerns the safety of the filler. As we only work with fillers that get degraded by the body after a while, permanent fillers (which are encapsulated by tissues) are not available here. Permanent fillers consist of substances that do not naturally occur in the body and are also not degraded by the body. Possible risks (that can also come after years) are infections, hard lumps, and (excessive) capsular contractures around the injected filler. If the skin furtherly ages, or for example after severe variations in weight, the injected substance may become visible as lumps under the skin. The Public Health Inspection (PHI) advises against permanent means and, as we already mentioned, we therefore do not work with non-degradable fillers in Kliniek Dokter Frodo.
The degradable fillers that we mainly use are Juvéderm and Restylane. The injected filler immediately offers volume and stimulates the production of new collagen. Depending on the type of treatment (for example a Liquid Facelift or an (anti-) eye bag treatment), the degradation of the hyaluronic acid in the filler can arise after one and a half years and a touch-up treatment can prevent a yo-yo effect from occurring.
Fillers that cannot be degraded biologically, and with which we thus do not work, are encapsulated by the tissue and therefore stay on the injected spot. Because the aging processes in the skin just keep on going, natural new wrinkles develop in the treated area. The velocity with which it happens can differ from two to five years.
The chance of complications and hardening of the skin in non-degradable fillers is of such a size that the combination of the irreversibility of the treatments of Kliniek Dokter Frodo does not work with these products. Because we think that information is very important, we offer you a number of examples of non-degradable fillers, so that you are able to inform yourself well:

PMS (we do not use this)

This is the most well-known and most popular biological non-degradable filler. PMS (polymethyl siloxane), also referred to as IPS (injectable purified silicone), is also known as silicone oil. Silicone oil has gotten a bad reputation because it gets encapsulated and increases over time, by which it grows harder and bigger.

Bio-Alcamid and Aquamid (we do not use these)

Bio-alcamid is used in order to give more volume to the skin. Like Aquamid, it is a transparent sterile gel and consists of water for 96% which is bound to 4% of polyalkylimide. It brings problems of encapsulation and irritation, certainly on the long term. Bad news in the media about fillers almost always concerns these substances.
Permanent fillers consist of substances that do not naturally occur in the body, and which are also not degraded by the body. Possible risks (that can also come up after years) are infections, hard lumps, and (excessive) encapsulation around the injected filler. If the skin ages further, or for example after severe variations in weight, the injected substance may become visible as lumps under the skin. The Public Health Inspection (PHI) advises against permanent means and, as we already mentioned, we therefore do not work with non-degradable fillers in Kliniek Dokter Frodo.

Safety of Juvéderm

Juvéderm and Restylane are the most frequently used injectables in the world. In our clinic in Amsterdam, we have used these fillers since our foundation. Worldwide, over 20 million treatments have been executed with these fillers, which have given a wealth of knowledge.
The hyaluronic acids in the fillers we use in Kliniek Dokter Frodo remain where they are, and when applied professionally, the chances of complications are next to nil.
Juvéderm and Macrolane are broadly tested in clinical studies in which the safety for cosmetic use has been shown. Because all fillers used in our clinic can be degraded biologically, undesired reactions rarely occur. If this unexpectedly does occur, we can remove the fillers, unlike in the case of permanent fillers

Side effects and complications of Juvéderm

Mild reactions may occur after treatment with hyaluronic acid. The most common ones are redness, mild swelling, itches, a bruise, pain, and sensitiveness. The reactions are mostly mild in nature and disappear shortly after the treatment. Lips can be swollen for several days after treatment.
In general, injectable treatments such as the Liquid Facelift, the eyes bags treatment, and the lip enlargement are short interventions in which a local anaesthetic can be given (when this is desired). The recovery time is short and in most cases you can return to the everyday operations immediately after the treatment.
We advise you to avoid direct exposure to sunlight or apply sunscreen well and wear a sun hat after each treatment.
