How does the Erbium Glass laser work?
The Erbium Glass laser creates tiny heat holes in the skin that reach deep into the dermis, while the surrounding skin remains intact. Strong wound healing is created, in which connective tissue cells are stimulated to produce new collagen in the deep layer of the skin. Because the epidermis remains intact, recovery is further accelerated. The tiny channels fill with new, healthy skin tissue. During the healing process, new blood vessels are also formed, which improves blood circulation and activates skin functions. Pigment cells recover and skin tone gradually normalizes, resulting in smoother skin that feels tighter, firmer and whose structure improves significantly. The laser uses the properties of water in the skin, minimally damaging the surrounding skin and selectively evaporating damaged skin cells layer by layer, while keeping the surrounding skin intact. This process stimulates collagen production, which ensures a tighter and smoother deeper layer of skin.
What can be treated with the Erbium Glass laser?
The Erbium Glass laser is ideal for treating deep (acne) scars, wrinkles and other skin problems. The heat from this laser ensures that new collagen and elastin fibers are created, so that the skin is restructured from within. This makes the treatment effective for various skin problems, such as:

The treatment step by step
Before treatment:

The treatment usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes. Inside SkinBoost we often combine this with an additional technique, such as a TCA peeling or a SkinBooster, to enhance the result.
Aftercare: what is allowed, what would you rather not?

The Erbium-Glass laser
At Clinic Doctor Frodo, we have various fractional lasers, so that we can offer a customized treatment for every skin type. Among other things, we have a fractional non-ablative Erbium-Glass laser with a wavelength of 1540nm. Non-ablative means that the laser keeps the skin intact so that the skin will recover faster. The laser has the ability to even out the skin, improve structure, refine pores and address fine lines. The laser provides a lot of heat in the skin and this heat stimulates collagen and elastin production to make the skin smoother, tighter and firmer.
Who is this laser suitable for?
We use the Erbium Glass laser for people of different ages, from young to old, with minor (acne) scars, sensitive skin that could use a boost, and rosacea to even out the skin. The beauty of this laser treatment is that we can also combine it with mild to intensive peels to achieve optimal results.
The Erbium-YAG laser
In addition to the Erbium Glass laser treatment, we also have the fractional ablative Erbium-Yag laser with a wavelength of 2940nm. In contrast to the Erbium Glass laser, this laser evaporates the top layer of skin. This leads to the fact that the top layer of the skin is renewed through peeling. The water in the skin absorbs the laser radiation and then it evaporates. The laser creates small holes in the skin, which are created by heat beams. This heat stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which ensures tighter skin. The laser can be set up in various ways, so that the treatment exactly meets the specific needs of your skin. The recovery time varies from person to person and depends on the intensity of the treatment, but can take up to 5-7 days.

The CO2 laser
Furthermore, we have a fractional ablative in the clinic CO2 laser with a wavelength of 10600nm. This laser also ensures that the top layer of the skin evaporates, with the same mechanism of action as the Erbium-Yag laser. The main difference between the Erbium-Yag and the CO2 laser lies in the depth of operation. The CO2 laser penetrates deeper into the layers of the skin, which actually shrinks the tissue and tightens the skin. Due to this intensive effect, the recovery is slightly longer than with other lasers. Depending on the person, the recovery time can be up to 7 days.

Although each fractional laser can provide impressive results on its own, we at Kliniek Dokter Frodo are real advocates of combination treatments for even better results. For example, we combine the Erbium-Glass and the CO2 laser for powerful skin rejuvenation. Hoe verloopt de nazorg van de Erbium Glass laserbehandeling?
Direct na de behandeling voelt de huid vaak alsof deze door de zon is verbrand, met zwelling en roodheid die 3-10 dagen kunnen aanhouden. Indien nodig kan de huid gekoeld worden met natte kompressen. Omdat de bovenste huidlaag intact blijft, herstelt de huid snel en is de kans op infectie minimaal. In de dagen na de behandeling kunnen kleine korstjes ontstaan en vervelt de opperhuid, wat leidt tot huidvernieuwing. De huidschilfers verdwijnen na 5-7 dagen. Krabben aan de korstjes moet vermeden worden om littekenvorming te voorkomen. Jeuk op de derde dag is normaal en hoort bij het genezingsproces. De herstelperiode duurt gemiddeld 3-10 dagen, afhankelijk van het behandelde gebied, huidtype en de gebruikte instellingen.
Hoeveel behandelingen zijn er nodig voor het beste resultaat met de Erbium Glass laser, en wat kan ik verwachten?
Het aantal benodigde behandelingen is afhankelijk van verschillende factoren, zoals de indicatie, het gewenste resultaat, je huidtype en de conditie van je huid. Meestal zijn er voor het gezicht minimaal 3 behandelingen nodig, en voor het lichaam minimaal 5. Tussen de behandelingen moet er minimaal 4 weken zitten om de huid voldoende te laten herstellen. Tijdens het intakegesprek zal de huidtherapeut je adviseren over het aantal behandelingen dat het beste bij jouw huid past. Omdat de stimulatie van het collageen nog enkele maanden doorwerkt, wordt het uiteindelijke resultaat meestal na 3 tot 9 maanden zichtbaar. Dit resultaat verschilt per persoon en kan de aandoening verbeteren of minder opvallend maken, maar niet volledig verdwijnen. Het is belangrijk om te weten dat factoren zoals roken, veel mimiek, een trage wondgenezing of het niet opvolgen van adviezen het resultaat kunnen beïnvloeden. In sommige gevallen kan de behandeling niet het gewenste resultaat opleveren, maar dit is vooraf moeilijk te voorspellen. Bovendien is de behandeling voornamelijk geschikt voor lichte huidtypes, omdat bij donkere huidtypes er een grotere kans is op pigmentvlekken.
Wat kan er met de Erbium Glass laser behandeld worden?
De Erbium Glass laser is ontworpen om de huidteint en textuur te verbeteren. Deze laser wordt gebruikt voor het behandelen van onregelmatige huid, zonbeschadiging, ouderdomsvlekken, huidverslapping, fijne lijntjes, grove poriën, oppervlakkige striae, littekens door trauma of chirurgie, en acnelittekens.
Zijn er beperkingen voor of na de behandeling?
Het is belangrijk om de zon en zonnebank te vermijden gedurende minimaal 6 weken voor en na de laserbehandeling (ook tussen behandelingen door). Een gebruinde huid heeft een verhoogd risico op bijwerkingen, zoals pigmentveranderingen. Zorg ervoor dat je een zonnebrandcrème met minimaal SPF 30 gebruikt, het liefst elke twee uur opnieuw, vooral als je de hele dag buiten bent. Als je een chirurgische ingreep hebt gehad in het behandelde gebied, raden we aan de laserbehandeling pas 3 maanden na de operatie of zodra de huid volledig is genezen, te ondergaan. Bepaalde medicijnen kunnen de lichtgevoeligheid verhogen of het herstel vertragen (bijvoorbeeld immuunsuppressiva). Het combineren van deze medicijnen met een laserbehandeling kan leiden tot bijwerkingen, zoals blaren of littekens. Meld altijd je medicijngebruik aan de huidtherapeut of arts. Daarnaast kan er niet behandeld worden als je een koortslip hebt.
Hoe gaat de behandeling in zijn werk?
Voordat we starten met de laserbehandeling, plannen we altijd een intakegesprek in. Dit gesprek is essentieel om jouw verwachtingen en wensen goed in kaart te brengen. Bij Kliniek Dokter Frodo geloven we in een persoonlijke benadering, daarom stellen we samen een behandelplan op dat volledig aansluit bij jouw huid en doelen. Tijdens de behandeling krijg je een beschermende bril op om je ogen te beschermen tegen het laserlicht. De laserkop wordt vervolgens over je huid verplaatst en rolt meerdere keren over hetzelfde gebied. Je zult een prikkelende warmte ervaren, gevolgd door een licht branderig gevoel. De behandeling zelf duurt doorgaans tussen de 30 en 60 minuten, afhankelijk van de grootte van het behandelde gebied, je huidtype en het gewenste resultaat. De intensiteit kan variëren van mild tot intensief, maar we zorgen altijd voor je comfort.

Het is moeilijk om van tevoren precies te zeggen hoeveel behandelingen je nodig zult hebben, omdat dit afhankelijk is van verschillende factoren, zoals de indicatie, het gewenste resultaat, je huidtype en de conditie van je huid. Wat is het verschil tussen de Erbium Glass Laser en de Erbium YAG Laser?
De Erbium Glass Laser is ideaal voor diepe huidproblemen zoals (acne)littekens en fijne lijntjes. Het stimuleert de aanmaak van collageen zonder de bovenste huidlaag te beschadigen, wat zorgt voor sneller herstel. De Erbium YAG Laser behandelt oppervlakkige huidonregelmatigheden en pigmentvlekken door de bovenste huidlaag te verdampen, waardoor het effectief is voor het verbeteren van huidtextuur en pigment.

Als BIG-geregistreerde paramedische professional beschikt de huidtherapeut over een beschermde beroepstitel en werkt zij nauw samen met huisartsen en dermatologen. Behandelingen zoals acnetherapie, laserontharing van het gezicht en camouflagetherapie worden vaak vergoed door de meeste zorgverzekeraars vanuit de aanvullende verzekering.
